About us
As the representative body of around 180,000 enterprises in Hamburg, Hamburg Chamber of Commerce serves as a trusted political lobbyist, mediator, and advocate for the local business community.
With about 700 elected entrepreneurs on its governing committees, 4,100 volunteer examiners supporting vocational education, and approximately 250 staff members at headquarters, the Chamber is built for impact at scale. It delivers a comprehensive suite of pre‑market services to startups and established companies alike—its motto: helping businesses to help themselves.
Politically active yet independent of any party, the Chamber advocates for fair competition, market-friendly regulation, and equitable support for SMEs across all industries. It also serves as an impartial arbitrator, offering alternative dispute resolution and prevention services that reduce legal burdens and support smooth commercial relations.
Dedicated to bolstering Hamburg’s economic engine, the Chamber works closely with national and international partners—German IHKs, foreign chambers (AHKs), local business associations, and public authorities—to deliver member services and shape regional growth.
Looking ahead, the Chamber shapes the city’s economic future through its “Hamburg 2040” strategy, addressing themes like sustainability, innovation, skilled labour, digital transformation, and legal and international trade frameworks.

Products & Services
As a customer-focussed provider of services to the business community, we furnish pre-market services to new and established firms. Our goal is to help others to help themselves.
As political lobbyist, we are strong advocates for a market-based legislative and regulatory environment that is conducive to small and medium-size enterprises. We are opposed to policies that favour a single industry and are committed to the common good of the business community. Though politically active, we are not affiliated with a political party.
As independent arbitrators, we support fair business practices by offering a range of alternative dispute resolution and prevention services. This reduces court caseloads and helps to ensure that the wheels of commerce turn smoothly.
Hamburg's business sector is the engine that drives our economic prosperity, which, in turn, benefits the city's social programmes and cultural institutions. Hamburg Chamber of Commerce aims to represent all Hamburg firms and to function like a turbocharger to boost this engine's performance.
