At this years' Gitex we will be presenting the latest version of our cable management software cableScout®. cableScout® is a high-performance fibre management software solution that has been specifically developed for the professional documentation, planning and administration of modern fibre optic networks in the WAN, metropolitan area and FTTx sectors.

cableScout® enables network operators to document and administer their fibre optic infrastructure together with the transmission technologies used such as xWDM or xPON from a national location through to fibre or signal level. The documented network is displayed with the correct positioning and in great detail on the relevant maps.

cableScout - the fiber management software

cableScout® is a high-performance fibre management software solution that has been specifically developed for the professional documentation, planning and administration of modern fibre optic networks in the WAN, metropolitan area and FTTx sectors.

cableScout® enables network operators to document and administer their fibre optic infrastructure together with the transmission technologies used such as xWDM or xPON from a national location through to fibre or signal level. The documented network is displayed with the correct positioning and in great detail on the relevant maps.

The central pooling of all network details into one database and the wide range of functions, displays and analyses provided by the system, ensures users have constant access to the most up-to-date cross-departmental information. This serves as the basis for quickly locating faults in the network, promptly answering customer queries, optimising utilisation of available resources and strategically planning network expansions.

Users are supported in their daily work by a range of special functions. These include plausibility checks, route search, auto-routing, work orders and end-to-end display of signals which help them obtain the desired results quickly and without errors.

The system’s graphical interface developed in-house offers huge benefits in terms of functional scope, user-friendly operation and costs. Both functionally and from a license perspective this enables cableScout® to be totally independent from expensive and complex third-party systems such as AutoCAD.

The modular design means the system can be customised and easily expanded at any time just by changing the license. The software is acquired as a one-off purchase. We do not operate an expensive subscription model. cableScout® and the associated database is installed on the customer's servers or on those of its service provider. Thanks to its many standardised interfaces, cableScout® can be easily integrated with other systems – such as GIS – and can exchange data with them accordingly.

cSmobile - the native mobile app of cableScout

cSmobile is, as the name suggests, the mobile component of cableScout®. The mobile version is available as a native app for the three operating systems – iOS, Android and Windows. The software has been developed specifically for network operators, whose field employees and service providers rely on up-to-date and easily understandable network information. The application provides the huge benefit that all the important data from a fibre optic network, including any associated map materials, is available offline on a mobile device without an internet or server connection. A server connection is only required to download new or updated data or for the re-transfer of any redlinings.

Network data are transferred from cableScout® via special interfaces into the administrator portal of the mobile version. This specifies which device can retrieve or use which data and for how long. The data in the mobile version are displayed identically with the correct positioning. All important details on buildings, ducts, micro-ducts, cables, connections, signals, distribution cabinets and the components used are included.

A wide range of functions is available for the user to work with. For example, the system can search for a signal and its route can be displayed both in the schematic plan and on the map itself. If this signal is faulty, then by inputting an OTDR measurement value at the relevant measurement port the possible fault site can be visualised on the map. If required, the user can navigate directly to the relevant position using the navigation function. With cableScout® mobile the user can respond immediately to faults without having to obtain additional information from the office.

The redlining function is also particularly useful. This enables comments to be added to each network object in the form of text, speech or images. For example, if a discrepancy is detected in the documentation, this can be captured accordingly and subsequently corrected in the cableScout® data.

The app has been designed to be extremely user-friendly. No special cableScout® knowledge is required nor is there any need to attend a training course. The system is, therefore, up and running very quickly and can be used company-wide by different user groups.

cSmonitoring - the 24/7 monitoring software for critical fibre infrastructure

cSmonitoring is a software system that has been specially developed for the permanent monitoring of critical fibre optic infrastructures. The software is web-based and accesses the cableScout database directly, but can also be used in standalone mode.

The objects to be monitored are documented in the cableScout system and provided with corresponding attributes so that all cables, ducts and cabinets to be monitored are migrated to cSmonitoring in the correct position. The cables are transferred with all length values, including excess lengths at the start or end and along the route, so that subsequent fault localisation is very accurate.

cSmonitoring can be connected to OTDR devices from various well-known manufacturers via a standard interface. The parallel use of OTDR devices from different manufacturers is also possible without any problems.

The system communicates either directly with the individual devices or optionally via the management system of the respective manufacturer.

The alarms sent by the OTDR devices are interpreted accordingly by cSmonitoring and displayed in the correct position on the map. Depending on the expansion stage of the OTDR, the software shows the user, for example, fibre breaks, cables with high attenuation values or open shafts or cabinets.

When the fault is displayed, the user receives important information about the reporting OTDR device, the faulty cable, the geographical and schematic route of the cable in the network and finally the correct position of the damage.

Notifications are sent both directly in the software and via automatically generated notifications by e-mail and SMS to mobile phones. Customers who use the mobile version of cableScout, cSmobile, can also have the messages sent automatically to their mobile device via push notification.

Any cable damage that occurs is immediately reported with the relevant information to the network operator's service team, which can react immediately and travel to the reported fault location. This significantly reduces downtimes in the event of a fault and minimises contractually agreed penalties.

The software and the associated interfaces are quickly ready for use and can be put into operation with minimal training thanks to the specialised scope of services.
